By REBECCA MUSHOTA –
FORMER Patriotic Front (PF) Secretary General Wynter Kabimba has formed a political party called the Rainbow Party but will not contest the upcoming presidential elections.
“This event has been prompted by your demand in the past years over the political direction and future of our country.
“Your anxieties were heightened with the violence and indiscipline we have seen in the PF and also in other political parties which made us form this political party called the Rainbow Party,” Mr Kabimba said yesterday.
Mr Kabimba announced the formation of the party at a Press briefing at Mulungushi International Conference Centre, where he was flanked by former PF members, among them, former Chawama Constituency chairperson Robert Chikwelete, former Lusaka District chairpersons Goodson Banda and Geoffrey Chumbwe.
Suspended Kitwe Anglican Church priest Richard Luonde was also at the briefing.
He said the party was owned by the members from all the provinces, who tasked him to lead them.
He said he was humbled by the appointment and that he would make sure all the needs of the women, youths and church were addressed.
Former Chingola mayor and PF member Mcdonald Mulongoti said the Rainbow Party would not participate in the January 20 presidential election because it was still organising itself.
Mr Mulongoti said there was no doubt that the party would win the 2016 general elections.
The members that had formed the Rainbow Party had been sidelined and brutalised by PF members while they were part of the party.
