Janza - MashabaBy ELIAS CHIPEPO –
ZAMBIA has secured a friendly match against South Africa set for January 4 in Johannesburg as part of preparations for the Equatorial Guinea 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.
The match between the Chipolopolo, the 2012 winners, and Bafana Bafana, the 1996 champions, will be played at the Orlando Stadium 13 days before the continental showpiece starts in Malabo.
Zambia is in Group B with Tunisia, DR Congo and Cape Verde while South Africa is in Group C, which is regarded as group of death, along with former champions Ghana, Algeria and Senegal.
According to kickoff, Bafana Bafana will start their 2015 AFCON preparations with a friendly against Honour Janza’s men on January 4.
The website reports that the match will be played at Orlando Stadium and will give coach Shakes Mashaba a better idea of what his team will look like for the showpiece tournament in Equatorial Guinea.
Bafana last played Chipolopolo in July 2013 during the COSAFA Senior Challenge Cup losing 5-3 on penalties in the semi finals after a barren 0-0 draw after 90 minutes.
Zambia famously beat Ivory Coast in the final of the 2012 AFCON final played in Gabon.
