By SANDRA MWILA –
THE Zambia Body Building and Fitness Federation (ZBBFF) has unveiled an K86,500 budget to stage the delayed 2014 Mr Zambia contest on January 27.
ZBBFF president Danny Mkandawire said yesterday that the Mr Zambia contest that was scheduled to take place on December 20 had been moved partly due to the presidential by-elections set for January 20.
“We have unveiled a K86,500 budget to stage the 2014 Mr Zambia competition and we are appealing to the corporate world to help us meet the budget,” he said.
Mkandawire said politics involved all Zambian citizens and ZBBFF wanted the athletes and other affiliates to fully participate in the nation’s electoral process.
“ZBBFF will host the Mr Zambia Body Building competition 2014 title on January 27, 2015 after the general elections. As you may be aware politics involve all citizens not excluding people in the sports fraternity,”he said.
Mkandawire said the competition also had to be moved because of inadequate logistics.
He said the postponement would also give ZBBFF more time to prepare for the tournament.
The ZBBFF president appealed to the corporate world to come on board and support the association meet the budget.
He said 45 body builders from across Zambia were expected to take part in the championship.
“As president, I am urging all competitors to stay focused and continue with their preparations despite the tournament being postponed,” he said.
Among the athletes to take part is Mr Southern Africa, Sylvester Mwila, who is also three-time winner of the Mr Zambia contest.
