THE Kabwe Municipal Council has terminated the contract awarded to a local firm, Kapson Constructions to build a police post in Luansanse Ward in the Central Province district.

Kabwe Deputy Mayor McDonald Mwamba disclosed that the contract has been terminated following the failure by Kapson Constructions to move on site on time.

Mr Mwamba who is also Luasanse ward Councilor said the contractor took too long to move on site which prompted the Council to terminate the contract and award it to another company Sterlum General Dealers.

“I can confirm that the contract has been terminated following the failure by the contractor to move on site and it has since been given to another local contractor Sterlum General Dealers who have shown seriousness’, Mr Mwamba said.

Last month, Government released about K100, 000 for the construction of the first ever police post in Luasanse ward up to the roof level.

A local contractor, Kapson Construction was engaged to do the works but did not show commitment and the Council was forced to terminate the contract.

Mr Mwamba said residents have for a long time been complaining to the Government over the high levels of crime in the area.

He had been getting reports on the high levels of crime and lawlessness in the area which Government was working towards bringing to an end by constructing a police post.

Mr Mwamba said it is unfortunate that some unscrupulous people had taken advantage of the absence of police officers in the area to engage in criminal activities.

He added that he would ensure the newly engaged contractor commences the works as soon as possible and that the council would not tolerate shoddy works.

People were looking forward to seeing the crime levels drop and sanity restored and that the Kabwe deputy mayor would personally supervise the works.
