JACKSON Mwanza says he is eyeing a move outside the country following a successful 2014 season with Zesco United that saw him finish MTN-FAZ Premier League topscorer with 15 goals.
Mwanza, who was instrumental in Zesco securing a double after winning both the league and Barclays Cup titles, is also targeting making the Chipolopolo final team ahead of the Equatorial Guinea 2015 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals.
The Zesco talisman said in an interview that he had worked so hard to earn that feat during the just ended soccer season and that he was ready to play in any top flight league.
Mwanza, who is part of a 24-member Chipolopolo squad comprising locally based players that go into camp this Sunday to start preparations for the AFCON finals, said he was fully equipped to face new challenges.
“I would like to thank God for the wonderful season I had and the goals that I scored, it wasn’t easy but it was down to hard work and I wish to pay tribute to my team mates for their support.
If an opportunity to play outside the country comes my way, I will not hesitate to pursue it but of course what matters are the terms and conditions being offered on the table,” he said.
Mwanza, however, said at the moment he was still committed to Zesco and is looking forward to play in the CAF Champions League next season.
On his national team chances, Mwanza said he would prove himself a worthy utility for the Chipolopolo front line ahead of the continental football showpiece.
Mwanza said being drafted in the Chipolopolo squad was an honour and that he would work hard to seal a place in the final team that will travel to Equatorial Guinea.
“Playing for the national team nowadays is very tough because of the many good quality players that we have in the country, and in order to make the final shortlist, one has to work extra hard to impress the technical bench.
I know how stiff the competition will be but I thank I have all it takes to lead the Chipolopolo’s attack and so, I will fight for a place in the team,” he said.
