THE Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) says it will partner with the Zambian people in ensuring national development once the party forms government after the presidential elections.
FDD president Edith Nawakwi said partnership with the people was the only way to ensure sustainable development for the country.
Ms Nawakwi said in Kitwe that Zambia belonged to everyone, hence the need to accord each person an opportunity to contribute towards national development through their thoughts.
She said it was not right for women to spend their time on streets trading and for that reason, once elected into office, she would partner with her female counterparts to find best means of alleviating their economic challenges.
Ms Nawakwi said the country belonged to everyone and as such, it was not correct for politicians to always want to benefit alone by making fake promises.
“It is not okay for our women to spend their lives selling on road sides and when elected as president, I will work with you so that together we find solutions to our challenges,” Ms Nawakwi said.
She said this year was a year of restoration as it was a year to work together by restoring the right to education, health and employment.
The country had enough resources to help fight poverty if utilised well.
Ms Nawakwi said 2014 being a year of restoration, she believed it was a turning point for the country to build a new Zambia as the desire of her party was not to work on past legacies but to initiate partnership aimed at developing the country.
She said that once elected president, she would give powers to people to determine the destiny of the nation.
Ms Nawakwi said as a way of bringing people close to government, she planned to make State House easily accessible to the general public.
She pledged to have the new Constitution enacted that would ensure equitable distribution of the country’s resources.
