MOPANI Copper Mines (MCM) has pledged to sponsor promoted ‘Mighty’ Mufulira Wanderers for the 2015 MTN/FAZ Super League season.
Wanderers’ financial status for the 2015 season has been a subject of debate after the club limped through the second half of the 2014 season without adequate sponsorship.
Mopani chief executive officer Danny Callow said they were looking forward to seeing Wanderers doing well in the coming season after a ten year hiatus.
“We have structured sponsorship very much like we have structured Nkana with some incentives that they have to perform.
“And as they do better throughout the year then those incentives get bigger but certainly with the newly revamped stadium, with the promotion to the premier league, they will kick-off next year with a big bang. We really hope that they are going to come into the Premier League and stay there for a foreseeable future,” he said.
Callow said everyone was also looking to seeing Nkana and Wanderers renew their age-old rivalries in the top flight.
Wanderers is Zambia’s second most successful club with nine league titles and returned to top flight football for the first time since 2005.
