THIRD seed Kundanji Kalenga yesterday stormed the 2014 Zesco Limited sponsored Ndola Squash Open championship quarter-finals, thanks to an impressive performance that saw him eliminate Mwansa Kabwe of Solwezi.
The Lusaka-based Kalenga, who was on bye in the first round, posted an emphatic 3-0 victory to see off Kabwe and set a quarter-final clash against Mwansa Chileshe who is based in South Africa.
Chileshe was also on bye in the first round and eliminated Alfred Muma with a 3-2 score.
Ndola’s Kafwimbi Nkole triumphed over Abiton Mbewe of Konkola and Eric Muma of Nchanga with identical 3-0 scores in the first and seconds rounds to reach the quarterfinal stage.
By press time, Nkole was scheduled to face defending champion Mwinga Lengwe, who beat Elvis Ngosa 3-0 in the second round.
In another match, Kachinga Kabwe of Solwezi suffered elimination at the hands of Tanzanian based Enos Mwale.
The women category saw a tight contest between Chembo Chisenga and Tandiwe Zulu both of Nkana, but it was Chisenga who claimed victory with a 3-2 score.
Other games saw Nkana’s Ethel Mambwe beat Carol Nachisambwe of Ndola 3-0 while Nelly Nanyangwe of Nchanga saw off Nkana’s Zulema Chisenga with the same score.
