Hector Chisompola remains one of the most exciting talents to have graced Zambian football- tormenting defenders and thrilling the fans with his silk skill from left attacking wing.
He played some amazing games for Red Arrows and Zanaco and is still fondly loved by the Chilenje football faithful from the short stint he had at City of Lusaka.
His best footballing time, however, was at Red Arrows, a team formed after the Zambia Air Force (ZAF) became envious of the success of Zambia Army’s Green Buffaloes. He has some sweet memories of time at Zanaco as well.
For the national team, he had few moments there as he did not see a lot of football despite being a regular call up to the KK-XI but sat on the bench most times.
He was a victim of being born in the same generation as arguably Zambia’s best ever talent Kalusha Bwalya and struggled to find a place in the starting 11 owing to the now Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president’s quality talent.
Chisompola’s story is the same of Beston Chambeshi, who lived in the shadows on Lucky Msiska in national team career despite being an extraordinary talent.
At Arrows, Chisomploa played alongside some of the best players seen in Zambia like Fanny Hangunyu, Johnstone Katowando, Bernard “Tools and Hardware” Mutale, John Zyambo, Patrick Phiri, System Chilongo, Aaron Njovu, Martin Besa and Ghost Mulenga.
With the history between Arrows and Buffaloes remaining a point of talk as to who is the boss between the two service sides, this is one match Chisompola holds dearly to his memories.
So a game between Arrows and Buffaloes was laced with bitter blood and to date, this fixture remains the one Chisompola looks forward to all the time and enjoyed the most as the airmen kept whipping Buffaloes.
He also treasures a continental game Arrows played against Daring Teeside of Zimbabwe where coach Boniface Simutowe for the first time played him as a holding midfielder but strangely produced the goods and managed to score a goal in a 3-0 away win.
He has bitter memories about his coaching career at Zanaco where he was fired and still believes he was betrayed by a close friend and out of anger; he decided to leave football to concentrate on serving the public in a different area as he went full time doing paper work at the Zanaco Bank, where he still is.
