Luano District Commissioner Christopher Chibuye disclosed that the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) has given the district 100 tonnes of maize to be distributed to the families affected by hunger.
Mr Chibuye said people in the district, especially those living in the valley were wallowing in hunger.
The area had been hit with hunger and that he was happy that the DMMU had given the people relief maize.
“I want to take this opportunity to thank the Government through the DMMU for sending the relief maize to the district to cushion the hunger situation,” Mr Chibuye said.
Mr Chibuye added that the district has been hit with hunger following the poor harvest in the area and also the change in the rainfall patterns.
He said the residents would receive the relief maize on food-for-work basis as there are a number of works going on in the district.
Mr Chibuye identified the areas to receive the relief maize as Mwalala that would get 400 bags, and Mudinda which would receive 230 bags of maize.
Kamibwa area would receive 220 bags and Komashi 150 bags of the relief maize.
