BADMINTON Zambia (BZ) is scouting for K40, 000 to send athletes to the All Africa Schools Championship slated for December 16 to 22 in Mauritius.
BZ general secretary Kingsley Mulenga said in an interview that the association has failed to raise the K40, 000 budget required to send the under 18 team for the championship.
“We are scouting for K40, 000 and we are appealing to the cooperate world to come on board and help as send our athletes to Mauritius for this important championship,” Mulenga said.
He said the association has found it difficult to raise funds owing to commitments of hosting the just ended Zone Six championship and the ongoing Zambia International championship.
“We may be forced to pull out of the tournament if we fail to raise the funds before the tournament gets underway. We have exhausted our resources having hosted the Zone Six Championship and the Zambia International. But will do our best to ensure the team leave and hope we shall get the necessary support,” he said.
He said the tournament was important as it will help the lads gain the needed experience and exposure as a way of preparing them for future international events.
Mulenga said the missing out would be a big blow because the athletes were adequately prepared to participate and compete amongst Africa’s best under 18 badminton players.
