CONGOLESE welterweight boxer, Mbiya Kanku needed medical attention in the ring after he was knocked out cold by Isiah Chilufya in the fifth round of this lopsided under-card of the World Boxing Council (WBC) titles promotion in Lusaka yesterday.
Standing out as one of Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions’ poster boy, Kanku was shocked when his nemesis Chilufya came throwing everything at him and took the count in the fourth, evoking pity faces in the crowd as his swollen eye and face baked in blood was seen by all.
There was no coming back in the fifth round as he went to the canvas after a devastating uppercut and once face down and grappling on the canvas, his corner threw in the towel to hand him a second career loss from five, his conqueror picking his fifth win in nine.
But the darling of the undercards was teenager Alfred Muwowo who won with a unanimous decision over Zimbabwe’s Anyway Katunga with shutout scored from the judges on his professional debut.
Flyweight Muwowo looked so good in his debut fight, he looked already like he had reached the Kennedy Kanyanta heights.
Other bouts saw Lolita Muzeya take a fourth round knock-out win over Monalisa Sibanda in a women welterweight bout while Mbolela Mukuni took a split points decision win over Gibbon Kamota in a featherweight contest.
Bantamweight fighter Bernard Mwango defeated Philimon Hara with a unanimous points decision.
