A TWENTY-TWO-YEAR-OLD student at Livingstone Institute of Business and Engineering Studies (LIBES) has been arrested for stabbing her boyfriend whom she allegedly caught with a sex worker at the Institute.??
The incident, which also sparked some protests among the students, happened on Monday this week around 01:00 hours.??
Southern Province Police chief Mary Chikwanda said the student Mwaka Mutemba, 22, of Dambwa North was arrested on Monday after she stabbed her boyfriend Jimmy Hambokoma, 24, who is also a student at LIBES.??
Mutemba is currently in Police custody at the Livingstone Central Police Station, while the unidentified sex worker escaped during the fracas.??
Ms Chikwanda said the incident happened when Mr Hambokoma brought in the alleged sex worker into LIBES premises and he was later caught by his girlfriend Mutemba.??
“The information is that the male student who also has a girlfriend at LIBES took a prostitute to the institution of learning in the night.?At this point, his girlfriend found him with this unidentified girl and a fight ensued between the girls,” Ms Chikwanda said.??
The alleged sex worker was only rescued by LIBES security guards who took her to the guardroom for protection from other students who also got involved in the fight.??
After the alleged sex worker was rescued, another fight ensued between the two students Hambokoma and Mutemba.??
Mr Hambokoma was overpowered by his girlfriend Mutemba and in the process she stabbed him with a knife on the left side of his hand leaving him with minor injuries.??
She said the Police were later called in and some students started throwing stones at Police officers who rushed to the Institute.??
“Police officers then threw teargas canisters to disperse the students. However, calm was restored at the Institute and no property was damaged,” Ms Chikwanda said.??
LIBES principal Thomas Kalantiya, who also confirmed the incident, described what transpired as unfortunate as it was a social problem between the students
