The surgery was performed by a woman identified as Dainess Katotoka on Wednesday around 10:00 hours.

The mother of the deceased child reported the matter to the police who in turn apprehended Ms Katotoka for murder.

“I can confirm that there was a report of murder in Kitwe after an attempt by a woman to cut a growth that had been growing on a six-year-old boy’s tongue,” she said.

She said the apprehended woman was currently in custody as police were investigating further the circumstances leading to the death of the child.
