ZAMBIA Rugby Union (ZRU) vice-president Owen Mhango and committee member Moono Muleya will recontest their positions at the forthcoming elective annual general meeting (AGM) to be held on February 1.
Mhango and Muleya’s intentions to re-contest their seats at the elective AGM set for Konkola Rugby Club in Chililabombwe come a day after general secretary Francis Chitambo declared his candidature to defend his position.
Speaking in separate interviews, Mhango, who was elevated from committee member to vice president after incumbent Joe Silwamba was voted into the Sports Council of Zambia (SCZ) board, said he deserved another chance to finish up the various projects that have been started.
Mhango said he has been part of a ZRU executive committee that brought about various sponsorship packages in the league and cup competitions.
He said it was during his tenure of office that the ZRU accorded every member club an opportunity to host events as a way of empowering the various clubs. Mhango said there was need to put up a proper constitution that should ably guide the operations of the union.
And Muleya, who was co-opted into the ZRU executive as committee member following the elevation of Chitambo as general secretary, said she deserves a chance to continue serving in the executive because there was still more she could contribute to the development of the game.
Mwila, who headed union competitions committee, said her committee did well in ensuring that local competitions were held on the local scene despite Zambia not doing well on the international scene.
