By JOWIT SALUSEKI –
HE likes calling himself as the new king of Zambia’s kalindula music.
To his fans, who attended his show, Afunika’s performance at NIPA Club last Friday where he made an appearance for an event organised by the outgoing NIPA students union lived up to that top billing.
Known for releasing smash hits such as Moment, Kakonte, Chimusebo and I Miss You among other top chart songs, Afunika was the darling of the crowd as he offloaded the tunes that have made him a house hold name much to the delight of his adoring fans who besieged the joint within the precincts of NIPA college.
The’ king’ of the new version of kalindula mesmerised his swarm of patrons – mostly students – with salacious dances which were spiced up by his dancers.
Even in their drunken stupor, some patrons could be seen flocking to the stage to showcase their dancing aptitude, while others were just magnetised by the soothing music.
In between, little known artistes took advantage of the event to showcase their talent and even when their music was alien to most attendees, the wannabes atleast managed to imprint their status in the hearts and minds of the patrons.
According to the organisers, the significance of the NIPA event was meant to bid farewell to the outgoing NIPA students union, with elections for the incoming union scheduled for this week.
Other places in the capital city that had gigs last weekend after a two week break from entertainment in honour of late President Michael Sata, included a gospel artiste’s concert at Evelyn Hone College.
Elsewhere, Hip Hop music wonder-kid Chef 187 and his kopala swagger dated UNZA’s Club Focus where first year students were ‘oriented’ in the campus social life.
According to Club Focus proprietor Sundano Simataa, the aim of contracting the Copperbelt based rapper was aimed at appreciating students who are regular clients at the popular joint.
