Letters to the Editor -LogoIT is now a daily trend that citizens have to live with agony of not having adequate or no water supply.
Mulungushi University was prematurely closed recently due to erratic or no water supply at the institution while the University of Zambia is currently rocked with the same problem.
These are but just a few high learning institutions while residents in most townships countrywide are also faced with the same water problem on daily basis.
It is, however, sad that pressure is always put on Government where students even take to streets when the provision is the responsibility of water utilities.
The question that begs to be answered though is whether these water utility companies are failing in their core responsibility in the provision of this very important commodity to their customers?
As private entities, these utility companies ought to invest heavily in this very important commodity for them to meet the demand than transferring pressure to Government when there is scarcity or no supply at all.
Are these water utility companies ready for the huge challenge ahead of them? Do they have solutions to avert these challenges permanently?

Kudos to scott

I WOULD like to profoundly commend acting Patriotic Front (PF) party President Dr Guy Scott for his patriotic stance of sticking to the PF constitution.
Dr Scott has proved to be very liberal in his leadership style not to the point of violating the party aims and objectives expressed in its constitution which provides guidelines to all persons and associates as stated in Article 5 of the PF constitution.
Clearly no conflict can arise from abiding by the constitution.
It therefore follows that the party needs to hold an extraordinary general conference to elect party and presidential candidate for the forth coming presidential by-election to be held on January 20, 2015. The conference must be attended by as many as 500 delegates from each province as clearly indicated in article 46(4) (a) (b).
In 2011 between July 3 -July 6 when late President Michael Sata was elected party president and presidential candidate (MHSRIP) at the ordinary general conference in Kabwe where delegates comprised 12 people from each district executive committee representing 4 top leaders from each of the 3 wings, 3 people from each constituency who are chairpersons of each of the 3 wings, all elected ward councillors and MPs. Others included all political secretaries, members of the National Council and members of the central committee. This means that the number of delegates is likely to exceed 5000 that would come from the 10 provinces because of the inclusion of ward councillors, political secretaries and MPs.
Ultimately, I would like to appeal for peace and unity to prevail in PF so that the party is not pushed to the crossroads. And in the same vain the party president and his secretary general may consider lifting all suspension on a blanket basis prior to holding the extraordinary general conference in order to foster unity.

Chipolopolo needs more matches

IT is nice that the Chipolopolo has qualified to the 2015 AFCON but there is need to organise high profile friendly matches that would expose the young talent which is a majority of the team.
We need serious friendlies that would help the strikers to sharpen their shooting skills.
Nkana top man Ronald ‘Sate Sate’ Kampamba needs more exposure otherwise he can deliver.
Coach Honour Janza should find a workable striking partner, failure to which goals would elude the team.
