THE Patriotic Front (PF) has resolved to adopt the presidential candidate through the central committee.
Meanwhile, Central committee meeting was adjourned to tomorrow to allow all aspirants file in their nominations and for legal consultations on the mode of adoption for the candidate.
At a meeting held at State House yesterday, the central committee turned down the proposal by acting President Dr Guy Scott for the party presidential candidate to be elected at the general conference.
This is contained in a statement by former Information and Broadcasting Services permanent secretary Emmanuel Mwamba.
Dr Scott had said that the party general conference would take place on November 29, 2014 to choose the candidate.
However, when the proposal was put to a vote, proponents of picking a candidate through the central committee were 28 against seven in favour of the general conference.
After the meeting, the committee went back in to choose a presidential candidate from amongst themselves.
In the morning, Dr Scott chaired a routine cabinet meeting after which the acting President called a central committee meeting to discuss the modalities of adopting the PF Presidential candidate.
The presidential election follows the death of republican President Michael Sata on September 28 in London and was buried on November 11.
Chongwe PF Member of Parliament Sylvia Masebo said once all the aspirants are known, the central committee would decide the mode of adoption of the candidate.
This is according to ZNBC news monitored last night.
The party was also considering consulting lawyers for a possibility of adopting the presidential candidate through the central committee.
