THE assurance by the Government to continue with President Michael Sata’s vision in the transport sector is a clear indication that all projects which were being spearheaded by the late President will come to their logical conclusion.
Indeed the statement by the Minister of Transport and Communications Yamfwa Mukanga during the launch of the Golden Jubilee – Michael Chilufya Sata express train indeed brings hope to Zambians, that the dream of President Sata to improve the transport sector will be realised.
It is worth noting that among the transport sector projects that were started during President Sata’s reign included the Link Zambia 8000 and the L400 road projects.
The late President, in his determination to link Zambia and improve the welfare of the Zambian people ensured that these and other projects were fast-tracked.
So far a number of roads have already been completed, while some are nearing completion in many parts of the country.
The L400 road project, for instance, will see 400 kilometres of township roads being rehabilitated while the first phase of the Link Zambia 8000 will see the construction of 2,290 kilometres of roads country-wide in the first phase.
Further in his quest to continue improving the welfare of Zambians, President Sata ensured that Zambia Railways Limited (ZRL) was also revamped.
In this regard, ZRL was initially given US$120 million from the Euro Bond money to boost the operations of the institution.
Following this move, the country witnessed massive improvement in ZRL, which included the rehabilitation of the rail line and purchasing of coaches for the institution.
To this end, ZRL recently bought a state-of-the-art coach which has been renamed in honour of President Sata, which the minister of Transport has since launched.
In paying tribute to President Sata for his commitment to improving the welfare of Zambians, workers at the railway company said they would never again allow any individual to concession ZRL.
Indeed repossessing ZRL had not only improved the lives of the workers but has effectively helped many Zambians through provision of cheap transport.
With this in mind, ZRL workers are right by stating that no individual should ever concession the company which during its period of concessioning became totally rundown.
The Golden Jubilee – Michael Chilufya Sata express train coach will be commuting between Livingstone and Kitwe, and will be one of the cheapest modes of transport, yet with quality services.
Therefore, it is only befitting that the coach was named after President Sata to honour him for his works in the transport sector through which lives have also improved.
With assurance from the Government to continue President Sata works, Zambians are indeed assured of continued improvements in the transport sector.
