6 Zambians detained in DRC

 SIX Zambians including a member of the Luapula Province Community Crime Preventive Unit (CCPU) have been arrested by authorities from the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) for fishing in Luapula River illegally.

 Luapula Province police chief Malcolm Mulenga said yesterday that the six Zambians were detained at Kashobwe Prison in Kasenga District in the DRC.

 They were arrested for fishing illegally on Sunday around 01:00 hours at Makandwe Fishing Camp on Luapula River on the Zambian side.

 Mr Mulenga said those arrested were Sizo Mwansa, 33, of Ndaso Village, Mathews Chitambo, 32, of Seya Kapema Village and a member of the CCPU, and Bernard Chungu, 28, of Kaweme Village.

 The other three are Gabby Mulenga, 19, of Kaweme Village, Sydney Mwila, 33, also of Kaweme Village, and Goodson Ng’onga, 23, of Mpuya Village, all of Chief Mwata Kazembe in Mwansabombwe District.

 “They were arrested by joint DRC operation of soldiers, marines and fisheries department. They are still detained,” Mr Mulenga said.

 And a 60-year-old man of Kaka Village in Chief Munkanta’s area in Kawambwa died on Tuesday after he was hit by a motor vehicle.

 Mr Mulenga said the accident happened at 13:50 hours when a Toyota Land Cruiser, registration number GRZ 788CF, belonging to the Forestry Department in Mansa and driven by Kapansa Chileya, hit Pinot Chama at Kani Village in Kawambwa.

 Mr Chama was rushed to Kawambwa District Hospital but he died on the way.
