THE British Council will set up more digital library hubs in various districts of Zambia to facilitate for easier exchange of education programmes with the United Kingdom.?British Council Country director Wayne Harper said the organisation was committed to ensuring that schools worldwide share experiences and cultures on educational systems.
He said connecting classrooms through digital hubs, was a global programme in which more than 5,000 schools and a million children were participating on education programmes.?Mr Harper was speaking in Choma on Thursday when he handed over a new digital hub comprising 22 modern computers connected with internet at the provincial library centre.
“Through the programme students learn about other cultures, teachers are linked up in curriculum development projects and professional development programmes and school leaders meet to exchange experience of bets practices in their respective education systems,” he said.
The organisation has so far launched 13 similar digital hubs in various parts of Zambia with the recent being launch in Kasama, Mansa and Choma at a cost of about K220, 000.
Mr Harper said connecting classrooms was one of a series of the organisation’s school partnership programmes aimed at facilitating exchange of education system among schools.?Southern Province Education officer Stephen Chishiko said Government was committed to enhancing education standards and hailed the British Council’s timely support.
Mr Chishiko said that the launched digital library hub was essential in helping both teachers and pupils to conduct researches and other educative programmes.?Memory Kamwendo, a Grade Nine pupil of Niza Primary School in Choma, called for more support from stakeholders to help Government strengthen the education system.
