A FRANCE-Based organisation has called for concerted efforts in protecting the environment in Africa and the world at large.
Les Amis Du Monde group leader Lionel Groult said awareness on environmental protection was a thing that countries in Africa and the world should focus on.
Mr Groult said one of the ways that would help curb environmental degradation would be the reduction of tree cutting for the purposes of charcoal.
Speaking in Livingstone yesterday when his organisation donated 100 Mosquito nets to Livingstone District Commissioner (DC) Omar Munsanje, Mr Groult said one way his organisation wanted to contribute to needy communities was by way of fighting Malaria through giving out Mosquito nets.
He said other than fighting Malaria; his organisation had also come up with Rocket stoves that were intended to reduce the cutting down of trees and the use of Charcoal.
Mr Munsanje said there was need to sensitize people who thought that Charcoal burning was?their only way of survival.
He said engaging citizens on matters of environmental protection was important in order to preserve nature.
“We need to engage our people who think that charcoal burning is their only source of income. There is need for them to realize the need for protecting our environment,” Mr Munsanje said.
He said the introduction of Rocket Stoves was a positive move that would help in the fight against environmental degradation in the world.
