A FORTY-THREE-YEAR-OLD man has died after the vehicle he was driving went through a road barricade and plunged into a bridge under construction along the Kitwe-Chingola Road.
The accident is believed to have happened when the deceased, who was driving a Toyota Hiace minibus registration number ALT 7764 failed to stop the vehicle because of excessive speeding and in the process, ploughed through the road barricade before plunging into the bridge under construction.
Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Joyce Kasosa said the accident happened around 02:00 hours of yesterday morning and named the victim as Nick Classen of Kitwe.
Ms Kasosa said Mr Classen was alone in the vehicle while driving from Kitwe heading towards Chingola when the accident happened at the bridge near Green Home Farms, around Sabina area.
“The vehicle was extensively damaged and the victim sustained multiple body injuries and died while trapped in the car,” Ms Kasosa said.
Meanwhile, two bandits armed with a pistol have pounced on Mount Meru Filling Station in Livingstone where they snatched K400.
The robbers attacked a fuel attendant, Helen Mulele, 24, in the early hours of Tuesday, Southern Province Police Chief, Mary Chikwanda, said.
The incident happened between 02:20 hours and 03:30 hours when the two unidentified men pounced.
“A fuel attendant at Mount Meru Filling Station in Livingstone was robbed of K400 by two men who were armed with a pistol,” Ms Chikwanda said.
No arrests have been made.
