THERE is need for Zambians to heed the appeal by the Government not to flock to Lusaka for the burial of President Michael Sata.
President Sata will be put to rest tomorrow at the Embassy Park in Lusaka but the Government has called on Zambians not to travel to the capital city as big television screens will be set up in their various centres.
Those residing within the Zambian capital have equally been advised to either watch the proceedings from their homes or gather at the nearest locations where big television sets would be set up to avoid unnecessary congestion.
While it is understood that many people would want to physically attend the burial of President Sata, there is need to give him a befitting send-off by not overcrowding the ceremony, which might result in clashes.
The First family does not need pointless clashes resulting from those who would still want to find their way to the burial site despite not having invitation cards owing to limited space.
Not everyone can attend the burial as the Heroes National Stadium can only contain 60,000 people while Embassy Park can only accommodate a limited number, and this is why the Government has made necessary arrangements for people to follow proceedings on television to avoid chaos.
There is need for Zambians to continue with the peaceful manner in which they have mourned the late President by ensuring that they follow the guidance issued by Secretary to the Cabinet Roland Msiska.
Zambians have, despite their political differences, conducted themselves in a dignified manner and have showed the world how united the country can be despite undergoing a difficult moment.
So it would be prudent that political parties ensure that their cadres behave in a respectful manner starting today when the body of President Sata would be taken to the Parliament buildings before actual procession for burial tomorrow.
It would not make sense for people to force their way to these areas if not invited and end up causing unnecessary confrontations with the police officers who will be stationed to ensure law and order is followed.
Certain roads will be closed tomorrow in view of the procession and Zambians have been asked to take the alternative routes by cooperating with the police traffic officers.
With foreign heads of State and representatives attending the burial, there is need for Zambians to show the love that has seen this country enjoy 50 years of peace and give our President a dignified send-off.
Let the love, maturity and peace that has prevailed during the period of national mourning in honour of President Sata continue even after he is put to rest.
