A TEN-YEAR-OLD boy is being held in police custody in Kitwe in connection with the suspicious death of his friend aged nine.
The nine-year-old was murdered and his body bundled in a sack by two men.
The two men had promised the incarcerated child that he would be rich if he availed them his friend so that they could kill him.
In an unbelievable event, the boy, a grade two pupil at a named primary school in Nkana East, convinced a friend to accompany him for a swim in the Copper Stream between Nkana East and Ndeke Village residential areas.
After swimming, the child allegedly handed over his friend to the two men, who killed him using an iron bar and put his body in a sack, which they carried away.
The body was, however, found floating in the stream the following day.
Copperbelt Commissioner of Police Joyce Kasosa confirmed the bizarre incident, which happened on October 23, 2014 and said both the incarcerated boy and the deceased child were from Zambia Township.
Investigations by the Times revealed that the boy, currently being held at Nkana East Police Station, was apprehended last month after he connived with two men to kill his friend.
“Police have picked the 10-year-old juvenile and he has confessed having led the friend to the two men to be killed and now police are in pursuit of the two fugitives,” sources said.
Prior to the weird murder, the incarcerated boy had come into contact with the two men, only identified as Peter and Joe, who asked him to bring a friend so that they could kill him.
The two men had told the child that once they killed his friend, the boy would accumulate wealth.
The two men bought the boy sweets and other foodstuff to seal the deal.
On the fateful day, as arranged, the incarcerated boy convinced the friend to follow him to Copper Stream for swimming after which the two men pounced on the friend and killed him.
They packed his body in a sack and left but the body was found floating in the same stream the following day, with blood oozing from the nose.
It was believed the assailants dumped the body in the stream to make it look like a drowning.
Sources said the postmortem conducted at Kitwe Central Hospital showed that the boy did not die from drowning but that he was killed.
