FREEDOM fighter Chibesa Kankasa has implored Zambians to remain calm and peaceful during and after President Michael Sata’s funeral.

Mama Kankasa was speaking in an interview with Journalists after leading fellow Freedom Fighters in viewing President Sata’s body in Lusaka yesterday.

She urged the general citizenry to maintain the peace Zambia had been enjoying the past 50 years.

“I do not want to enter in politics because am no longer a politician. What I am appealing is for the people of Zambia, from the highest level of our community to the grassroots level, let us keep calm and bring peace within us.

“It is peace which shall take us to the day we are going to bury our President, it is peace which will take us to the time when this country is going to have a by-election or an election of the President, it is peace,” she said.

Mama Kankasa was hopeful that the country was going to have a smooth transition of power if peace was upheld.

She also described the death of President Sata as sudden because Zambians did not anticipate the Head of State to die so early.

“We would have liked him to be with us so that he can complete what he started doing for the people of Zambia,” she said.

She cited the massive road works which President Sata’s Government had embarked on and that Freedom Fighters would remember the late Head of State for honouring and recognising them.
