Scales of Justice - bigBy PERPETUAL SICHIKWENKWE –

A TAXI driver and a secretary at M.M.I Steel Limited yesterday appeared in the Lusaka magistrate’s court for theft and purchasing forged bank notes amounting to more than K84,000.

Esther Mundebele and William Mwambazi are alleged to have possessed K89,400 of forged bank notes on August 15, 2014 in Lusaka.

The suspects knew that the money was fake.
Mundebele, being an employee by M.M.I Steel Zambia Limited as secretary, is also alleged to have on the same date stolen K89,400 cash from her employer.

Mwambazi is also alleged to have stolen the same money K89,400 from M.M.I Steel Zambia limited.
When the matter came up, principal magistrate Kenneth Mulife allocated it to Magistrate Sheila Mweene.

However, Mundebele and Mwambazi could not take plea as the court adjourned the matter to today.

Meanwhile, there was drama at the Lusaka magistrate’s court yesterday after a suspect bolted from being re-arrested by the police.

It took the police to fire warning shots in the air to scare Michael Simwinga before he was finally re-arrested.

Simwinga, who is facing theft charges for breaking into a butchery and shop, had been discharged by magistrate Prince Mwiinga after the State entered a nolle prosequi.

When Simwinga was discharged, he run out of the magistrate complex, prompting the police to give chase.

Simwiinga ran into the nearby Burma residential area, while telling people that he was wondering why the police officers were chasing after him when the court had released him.

He was finally arrested after some warning gunshots, which he had initially ignored.
