A SEVENTY-YEAR-OLD woman of Nanchengwe Village in Mazabuka has been brutally murdered by her grandson, who later dragged the body into his house and set it ablaze.
Catherine Mwiinga of Chief Hanjalika’s area was murdered by her grandson, Leward Chipola, 22, of the same village for unknown reasons.
Southern Province Police Commissioner, Mary Chikwanda said the incident happened on Tuesday around 03:00 hours.
Chipola, who was suspected to have murdered his grandmother in her house, later dragged the body into his own house.
This shocked other villagers when they woke up on Tuesday morning.
The matter was reported to Mazabuka police by Timothy Chimpa, 35, the younger brother of the deceased.
“He (Mr Chimpa) reported that her older sister Ms Mwiinga of the same address was brutally murdered by her 22-year-old grandson Leward Chipola, who later dragged the body into his house and set it ablaze,” she said.
Ms Chikwanda, however, said that the charred body was retrieved from the house and was to Mazabuka General Hospital mortuary.
