A MAN of Mpita Village in Chief Kasomalwela’s area in Chembe District has died after he was beaten by Chief Kasamolwela’s retainer and indunas following the chief’s instructions.
Bishili Nsamya, 60, died on Monday afternoon after he was allegedly beaten by Chief Kasomalwela’s retainer, relatives and indunas on what is believed to be the chief’s instructions after the chief suspected him of bewitching him with an illness.
Luapula Province Police chief Malcolm Mulenga said yesterday that Chief Kasomalwela of Chembe summoned Mr Nsamya, James Ndabila and Ndaliya Nkandu also of Mpita Village, to his palace on allegations that they bewitched another villager Mwewa Ndabila, her child and?also that they were behind the chief’s sickness.
“While in the process of interviewing them, Mr Nsamya refused to cooperate which angered Chief Kasomalwela who then ordered for a rope and a hosepipe which his relatives, retainer and indunas used to tie and beat him up,” Mr Mulenga said.
Mr Nsamya ran towards Lwela River which is about a kilometre from the palace where the suspects allegedly followed him and shoved him into the river, pushing him further with beatings until he drowned.
The matter was reported to the Police on Tuesday by members of the public.
Mr Mulenga said Mr Nsamya’s relatives could not retrieve his body by Press time.
He said the Police were yet to arrest the suspects and the search for the?body has continued.
Meanwhile, a security guard in Kazangula has been stabbed in his waist with a broken bottle of beer by a South African truck driver at a nightclub.
Simataa Simataa, 27, of Mwaanga Village in Chief Musokotwane’s area, was allegedly stabbed by Louis Ndhlovu, 47, a truck driver of Light Transport, of 332608 Elsbery Town.
Southern Province Police chief, Mary Chikwanda said the incident happened on Saturday around 19:00 hours.
Mr Simataa, who was guarding at Start Point Bar at the time of the incident, had advised Mr Ndhlovu not to walk out of the nightclub with a bottle of beer.
Mr Ndhlovu could have been incensed and in the process allegedly broke the bottle he had and stabbed Mr Simataa who sustained a deep cut in his waist.
“A security guard (Mr Simataa) at the bar advised him not to go out of the club with a bottle, the truck driver then broke the bottle and stabbed the guard in the waist,” she said.
Mr Simataa was rushed to Livingstone General Hospital where he was admitted but was discharged after being treated.
