ZAMBIA’S golf sensation, Dayne Moore on Sunday rallied from four strokes down to retain the Lubumbashi Open Championship with an impressive three-under-par 213 in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
After shooting level-par 72 in the first two rounds, Moore was firing in all cylinders on the final day as the leader cracked badly.
The 22-year-old Ndola golfer hit a sizzling three-under-par 69 on Sunday to defend the title he first won last year.
Winning the 2014 Lubumbashi Open is a big boost to Moore’s confidence after struggling on the Sunshine Tour in South Africa this year.
Moore, whose best career highlight was in 2010 when as an amateur he finished seventh at the Zambia Open after firing an awesome nine-under-par 210, is now looking to the future with renewed hope.
When he won the Lubumbashi Open last year, Moore pocketed $5,000 (about K31,500).
At the 2014 Mopani Copper Mines Zambia Open in Kitwe, Moore was the best local player when he shot 286 and get his biggest career pay-cheque on the Sunshine Tour of R17,340.94 (about K10,404).
He went on to reap R5,040 (about K3,024) at the Zambia Sugar Open in Lusaka.
