THE Zambia Consumers Association (ZACA) says President Michael Sata was a champion of consumer rights.
ZACA executive director Samuel Simutunda said in an interview at the weekend that Mr Sata had a perceptible desire to fight for the interests of vulnerable consumers during his three years in office.
“As an association, we are deeply saddened at the loss of our Republican President because be had the interests of vulnerable consumers in this country fundamentally,” Mr Simutunda said.
Mr Simutunda reminisced that during the last three sessions that the late President addressed the National Assembly, his speech always contained provisions on how Government was working to alleviate poverty.
He said Mr Sata was always concise on agriculture policies that his government was implementing to ensure food security at household and national levels.
“The late President clearly outlined the measures that his Government was implementing to stimulate the agriculture sector. He talked of crop diversification, construction of storage sheds; all in a bid to enhance national food security,” Mr Simutunda said.
Mr Simutunda appealed to Mr Sata’s predecessor to continue with the vision of taking development to all parts of Zambia especially in the rural areas.
