THE Zambia Judo Association (ZJA) has postponed indefinitely the 2014 Japanese Ambassador Championship that was slated for November 8 in Lusaka.
ZJA president Alfred Foloko said in an interview yesterday that the association decided to defer the tournament as a mark of respect for late Republican President, Michael Sata who died this week.
Foloko said following President Sata’s death, ZJA decided to postpone the staging of the Japanese Ambassador Championship to a later date and join the rest of the nation in mourning passing on of the Head of State.
More than 150 judokas from affiliate clubs across Zambia are expected to participate in the championship where the deserving athletes will walk away with trophies and certificates.
Foloko said judo benefited from Government support in its developmental programmes.
The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) also cancelled all football matches this weekend.
FAZ’s decision means all Premier Division, Division One, Two, Three, Futsal and any other matches organised under the ambit of the association at provincial and district levels will not take place .
Sports Council of Zambia announced that sports activities have been suspended.
