AS Zambia continues to mourn the demise of President Michael Sata, the second sitting president to die in office in a period of six years, it is imperative that as abiding citizens, we adhere to the guidance provided by those in leadership to ensure that order prevails at each stage of the mourning period.
We must be mindful of the fact that President Sata died in office and, therefore, deserves a decent and dignified send-off. In this vein, it is incumbent on each one of us to play their part and ensure that no confusion arises.
As the programme of mourning is being unveiled at each stage by those who have been appointed in Government leadership to give guidance, all citizens should remain united and be attentive to the instructions that would follow thereafter without going astray.
Yes death is a painful experience no matter what, and the reality of Mr Sata’s demise will only sink in once the casket containing his body comes home today.
Therefore, the onus is on every Zambian, though grieving and sorrowful, to ensure that the entire procession move smoothly.
Zambians have been admired for their peaceful nature and such accolades to should continue even during this trying moment.
Our appeal to the general public is that people adhere to the instructions issued at every stage of the programme without adding or subtracting anything so that all may go well with the nation.
In this vein, as the body of the great son of this soil lands, let us hold our hands together in unity and allow the Almighty God to strengthen us to mourn as a peaceful people as we always have been known to be.
Instructions so far issued are clear to the effect that body viewing of the late President will be done at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre, just after Acting President Guy Scott lays a wreath.
Mr Sata’s body will lie in state thereafter for a few more days.
We all may wish to pay our last respects to our departed President but this cannot be done at the same time. Enough time will be accorded to all, so there is no need to scramble as this procedure will last for a few more days.
Those in other provinces have been urged not to travel to Lusaka as the entire procession will be broadcast live on our television sets.
Body viewing starts from 12:00 to 18:00 hours daily until the day of burial on November 11. May his soul rest in eternal peace!
