THE Lusaka Motor Sports Club plans to host a fundraising motor sports contest next month to enable Zambia’s star rider, David Reeve make an attempt at the 2015 Dakar Rally in South America.
Reeve will be making a third attempt at the Dakar Rally after twice crashing out with injuries.
During the fundraiser, the Lusaka Motor Club has arranged a car racing contest next month where it intends to give all proceeds to Reeve for his Dakar Rally exploits.
The fundraiser tentatively set for November 8, will have participants paying K300 while fans can watch the fun at K10 each.
Reeve is expected to make an appearance with some bike stunts and then also take on the top rally drivers.
The top rider said he was fit for the Dakar Rally that had left his two legs broken in the last two attempts.
“I am fit and healthy and boosted by the epic performance in Morocco. We (rally team) are just waiting for the announcement of race dates. The announcement should come on November 18. It’s all systems go,” he said.
Reeve has a dream of completing the Dakar Rally, which is the world’s ultimate race and takes place in the desert in South America but starts from the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires, and goes through three countries.
In his first attempt, Reeve, after a blistering start, failed to finish the race after he disappeared between stages only to be found with a double broken leg.
As if that was not enough, he had a go at the next Dakar Rally this year where he again had a good start but ended the race prematurely with a knee dislocation.
Determined to overcome the race challenges, he earlier this year took part in the Oilibya World Championship in Marrakech, Morocco where he finally managed to get to the finish line where came out third in the rookies category.
Meanwhile the motor bike, which Reeves hopes to use at the Dakar Rally next January, has left the United States of America for verification of fitness in France before the world’s toughest race start in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
After being certified ready, Reeve’s bike will be shipped to Argentina for the Dakar Rally which the Mazabuka rider will be having a goal at for the third straight year.
