THE army worms which invaded crop fields in some districts in Eastern Province have been contained.
About 502 hectares of land were affected by the army worms from December 26, 2013 to January 2, this year, in the province.
Provincial agriculture and livestock coordinator, Obvious Kabinda said the districts affected by the worms were Chipata, Nyimba, Petauke and Katete.
Dr Kabinda, however, said the damage to the crops was not severe as most crops had continued growing.
He said that the Ministry of Agriculture in the province had managed to control the worms.
Dr Kabinda said the province had sprayed all the affected fields and had not received reports on fresh attacks by the army worms.
