THE Government has honoured more than 300 Zambians for various contributions in shaping and uplifting the country’s profile.
In a colourful investiture ceremony graced by Lusaka Province Minister, Phillip Kosamu in Chongwe yesterday, Government honoured freedom fighters, ambassadors and high commissioners, former chief executives, former ministers, sports personalities, chiefs and other patriots.
Some of those honoured were Mama Chibesa Kankasa, Mainza Chona, Annel Silungwe, Chieftainess Nkhomeshya, Dennis Liwewe and Arthur Wina.
The event attended by a massive audience, opened with cultural dances and later came presentation of honours before concluding with an official photograph.
Chieftainess Nkhomeshya was pleased that the country would mark 50 years in a peaceful manner and hoped that it continued.
The traditional leader was happy that God was kind to see the country through 50 years.
She implored the young generation to maintain the peace and stability exhibited by the older generation and urged them to continue working hard to gain economic power.
She said Zambians needed to bury their differences and uphold the peace that the country enjoyed.
The chieftainess asked all Zambians to pray for President Micheal Sata and commended him for the efforts he has made in the development of the country in the three years that he has led he country.
In a separate interview Lusaka Province Permanent Secretary, Wamunyima Muwana was happy with the peoples’ commitment and large turnout.
