ZAMPOST has produced stamps to celebrate Zambia 50th independence anniversary.
Meanwhile, the Ndola Museum has a Golden Jubilee photo exhibition.
Zampost public relations manager Sonile Lintini said during the launch at the Zampost head office in Ndola on Wednesday that the stamps were available to the public as of yesterday.
Ms Lintini said that as a way to commemorate Zambia at 50, Zampost had produced an issue of stamps dubbed ‘50 Glorious Years of Independence’.
“The stamps will highlight the handover of power to the first Republican president, the first ever Independence Day celebrations, our first Republican president and various international dignitaries and our various natural resources such as animals and agriculture,” she said.
Ms Lintini said Zampost had also issued three souvenir editions and would be handing out albums of the jubilee stamps to some notable members of society.
She said stamps were an engaging way in which to preserve history and celebrate various monumental occasions in Zambia’s history and residents should get as many stamps as possible as a way to celebrate the Golden jubilee and collect historical events in an interesting way.
Meanwhile, Copperbelt Permanent Secretary Howard Sikwela has urged Zambians to emulate the attitude of sacrifice that the freedom fighters exhibited when fighting for the country’s independence.
Reverend Sikwela said during a photo exhibition at the Ndola museum yesterday set up by a former freedom fighter Steve Kaliminwa.
He said freedom fighters sacrificed their lives and the lives of their family members to gain the country freedom from colonial rule.
However, Rev Sikwela said, some Zambians, especially the youth did not exhibit an attitude of sacrifice in their work.
He said the photo exhibition was a good way to learn of the country’s history and urged the media and members of the public to go out of their way and get information on unsung heroes like Mr Kaliminwa.
