VICE-President Guy Scott has said ministers and other Government officials will officiate at various activities to mark 50 years of Zambia’s independence, in the absence of President Michael Sata.
President Sata left the country on Sunday night for medical checkup.
Dr Scott said the ministers and Government officials would officiate at various celebrations that had been lined up across the country.
He said this in an interview after the official launch of the National Archives of Zambia Golden Jubilee independence exhibition in Lusaka yesterday.
“There are a lot of celebrations taking place to commemorate golden jubilee, we are so many in Government do we need to look around for people to grace these functions?” he said.
Dr Scott said the country was expecting representatives from about 30 countries to join Zambia in celebrating the Golden Jubilee tomorrow.
Earlier, he commended the National Archives for documenting the history of Zambia in a professional way.
He said Zambia had a rich history which was about 120 years old and it was important that it should be documented.
He was happy that the exhibitions at the archives were carefully selected to give the idea of the time line of Zambia in the last 60 years.
He commended the Finish Government for helping computerise the National Archives.
National Archives of Zambia director Chileshe Musukuma said as the nation marked 50 years of independence, massive strides had been made which would not go unnoticed.
She said the National Achieves had played an important role in preserving information in the last 50 years and was committed to continue doing so.
