KANYAMA Stars were crowned Lusaka Province champions after beating Highlanders 1-0 in the Inter-Compound football tournament finals played in Kufue to walk away with K7,000.
The tournament held at the weekend saw Highlanders getting K5,500 while Little Spiders finished third and were awarded K4,000.
Kanyama stormed the finals after whitewashing Chawama 9-1 in the semi-finals while Highlanders beat Little Spiders 4-1 in the other match. Little Spiders made amends beating Mswima 5-3 to grab third slot.
More accolades followed Kanyama as Titus Ndole emerged topscorer with seven goals and was given K500 with the man-of-the-match award going to team-mate Ronald Zulu of who also got K500.
On the Copperbelt, Chifundo United of Chingola were crowned champions to also pocket K7,000 with Koka Killers of Mufulira in second place to get K5,500 while Ndola representative Nkwazi Academy got K4,000 for finishing third.
Meanwhile, Zambia Breweries marketing manager soft drinks Mambo Mwiimbu described the tournament as a success and reaffirmed the companies’ commitment in sponsoring the youth tournament.
Mwiimbu said during the presentation ceremony that she was impressed with the team’s performance especially with the champions Kanyama.
“This tournament was a huge success and you can tell that these teams
have something to offer to the development of football,” Mwiimbu said.
