ROAN United yesterday became the first team to be relegated from the 2014 MTN-FAZ Premier Division League after losing their crucial Week 27 rescheduled match to Indeni at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
The Luanshya side is heading to the lower echelons of the Zambian league structure after spending seven years in the top flight.
Roan’s fate was sealed on 73 minutes when Indeni striker, Norman Munthali rose majestically unchallenged to knock in a header from a Kabwe Chileshe cross.
The victory gave Indeni some impetus to fight and try to avoid demotion with three more games to play before the close of the season.
Indeni’s goal came six minutes after Roan captain, Arthur Kaseloki saw his shot from a Tom Bakala square pass inside the box flash across the goal-mouth.
Roan, who finished ninth on the log last year, remain rock-bottom on 17 points from 27 games while Indeni rose to 14th on the table on 27 points.
The remaining three slots for relegation will be known in the couple of weeks with Kabwe Warriors, Green Buffaloes, Red Arrows, Indeni and Konkola Mine Police being the endangered species.
