By CHARITY MOONGA –
JUSTICE Minister Edgar Lungu will next week present a statement to Parliament on the status of the Constitution-making process.
But the Grand Coalition has announced that the Government will release the Draft Constitution to the public next week.
Vice-President Guy Scott told Parliament yesterday that Mr Lungu would issue the statement during the course of the week.
This followed a question from Kabompo West UPND MP Ambrose Lufuma who wanted to find out whether the Government had failed to deliver the Constitution.
The Grand Coalition has, however, stated that the Government would release the Draft Constitution during the independence week.
Grand Coalition member Macdonald Chipenzi said in a statement that theCoalition had a meeting with Mr Lungu at which he assured of Government’s unwavering resolve to release the Draft Constitution during the independence week.
Mr Chipenzi commended Mr Lungu and the Government for the open dialogue over the Constitution, which he said would greatly assist in charting the way forward.
At the meeting which lasted one hour, Mr Lungu told the Grand Coalition that the Government remained committed to releasing the
Draft Constitution to the public.
The Coalition was hopeful that the Government would not backtrack on its commitment to release the Draft Constitution because it would greatly erode public confidence in the Constitution-making process.
