THE 2014 Jubilee Regatta is on today at the Zambezi Boat Club in Livingstone with winners to pocket K10, 000.
Organisers have upped this year’s prize money from K7, 000 which defending champions Autoworld Rowling Team got last year after winning the men’s event while runner up and third place finishers will pocket K5, 000 and K3, 000 respectively.
Southern Province sports development coordinator Kennedy Mubanga said all was set for the regatta that had attracted participation from all the 10 provinces and that spectators from all across were expected to attend.
In a press statement released yesterday, Mubanga said the 2014 regatta was offering the highest ever prize money and that this was in conformity with the 50years of Independence.
He paid tribute to Zamtel, Zambia Breweries, Professional Insurance, Zambezi rafting, Mark Partners and Kapepe Junior for coming on board to ensure the Jubilee regatta is held.
Mubanga named some teams expected to take part as Zambia Police Service, Zambia Air Force (ZAF), Zambia Army, Zesco Victoria Falls and Town Offices, Autoworld, Kazungula Youths, Musanza and Protea Hotel.
Mubanga said the function would be graced by Southern Province Minister Daniel
Munkombwe and Provincial Permanent Secretary Annie Sinyangwe.
“The most disciplined Team will walk away with a Daniel Munkombwe trophy that will be given in recognition to the Ministers’ positive contribution to the nation and Southern Province in particular,” he said.
