THE Green Party (GP) says it will participate in the jubilee celebrations despite other opposition parties shunning the event.
GP leader Peter Sinkamba said the party would join in celebrating Zambia’s 50 years of independence because it was a national event.
Mr Sinkamba, who would be commemorating his birthday on the same day, said during a press briefing in Kitwe that facing economic challenges did not mean boycotting the celebrations.
“If I boycott jubilee celebrations it will simply mean I have shunned my own birthday because I was born in 1964,” he said.
Mr Sinkamba also said once in Government, the GP would unveil decentralisation and access to land and housing policy to benefit Zambians.
The party would make sure no citizen in the country was left homeless, especially the vulnerable.
Mr Sinkamba said the party would increase funding and support to repair and renovate housing infrastructure in rural areas.
Meanwhile, Government has expressed disappointment with some business houses’ failure to put up decorations in national colours ahead of the jubilee celebrations next week.
