GOVERNMENT has unveiled names of the Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) Board, which include a retired veteran broadcaster Alphonsio Kashulwe.
Mr Kashulwe worked for the Zambia National Broadcasting Corporation (ZNBC) and retired in 2006.
Information and Broadcasting Services Minister Joesph Katema unveiled the board yesterday in Lusaka following approval of the names by Cabinet.
The IBA was established by an Act of Parliament to provide regulation for the broadcasting industry in Zambia.
Other members of the Board are Justin Mutale, former commandant for Intellectual security, Hillary Banda, a former accountant at Zambia Railways Limited, Patricia Mwase a director at Opti-Quest Media Corporation Limited and Evans Muhanga, chief marketing officer at Zamtel.
Others are former Central Province education officer Enita Hamatumbika, Barrick Lumwana Mine sustainability manager Brenda Liswaniso and Information and Broadcasting Services Permanent Secretary Bert Mushala.
“Government is confident that the team has competence, expertise and experience to grow the IBA from the current infancy stage to a formidable organisation that will oversee the growth of professional
and vibrant broadcasting industry in the country,” Dr Katema said.
Dr Katema said Government and the people of Zambia had high expectations on the need for the media to exercise high ethical and professional standards in the role of informing educating and entertaining.
