By PERPETUAL SICHIKWENKWE –

FORMER Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) deputy commissioner for administration and training, Jacob Koyi yesterday told court that he is heartbroken that his career is shattered because of the theft allegations he is facing.
Koyi is jointly charged with former DEC commissioner Ryan Chitoba, with theft of public funds involving more than K300 million.
They are alleged to have stolen the money between May 2006 and April 2007 while working for the commission.
Koyi told Lusaka High Court deputy director Charles Kafunda, who sat as magistrate yesterday, that it was disheartening for him to stand accused of theft and have his career shattered over something which he did not do.
He said the money under the period in question, was withdrawn by him at the instance of Chitoba.
After withdrawing the money, he would hand it over to Chitabo’s Aide D’ Camp (ADC).
He said that he served under three commissioners and the system of how money was used, was the same in all the periods.
Koyi said he was not privy to the amounts of money that were being held under the different accounts of DEC and would only withdraw money when instructed to do so and give the money to someone else.
Trial continues today.
