THREE Grade 12 pupils at Zimba Mission Secondary School have severely beaten the school security guard.
The guard sustained a deep cut on his head and was admitted to Livingstone General Hospital.
The boys attacked Emmanuel Kabuku around 01:00 on Friday within the school campus.
They have been arrested and are being held at Zimba Police Station.
Southern Province Police chief, Mary Chikwanda said it was not clear what led to the attack on the guard.
“We have not yet established the motive behind the pupils beating this security guard, but we have instituted investigations over the matter,” Ms Chikwanda said.
Some sources, however, said the trio could have been returning from a drinking spree and could have been confronted by the guard when they entered the school premises.
Meanwhile, Police in Namwala have arrested three notorious cattle rustlers who had been terrorising the locals in the district for the past four years.?The trio of Jones Hantuba, 43, of Butele Village, Mwaaba Nabwengwa, 31, of Muntimwaangoma Village and Matchaka Nantenda, 30, of Maunga Village, is from Chief Nalubamba’s area.
Ms Chikwanda said the trio, detained at Namwala Police Station was arrested after a tip from members of the public on Saturday last week around 03:00 hours in Chitongo area.
The rustlers used to steal cattle and later kill the animals before selling the carcasses to unsuspecting members of the public.
She said Police recovered a Canter Truck with registration number ALV 2214, loaded with six carcasses while the driver, Patson Ncube and two other persons, Patrick Mfumo and Bonny Mfumo, both from Chitongo area were on the run.
