GERMANY Ambassador to Zambia Bernd Finke has called for the repealing of laws that violate key human rights.
Mr Finke said Government should observe Human rights for the marginalised by addressing existing laws.
“It is the obligation of Government to enact the law, if the law is in violation of key human rights violations, you have to get rid of that law and not to get rid of human rights,” Mr Finke said.
He said this when he gave a key note address on human rights at a media roundtable discussion held at Cresta Golfview Hotel in Lusaka yesterday.
Zambia was in development cooperation agreements which it needed to adhere to.
“One of the conditions is that Government has agreed to promote human rights, rule of law and democracy,” he said.
The biggest challenge for every Government and every country was the problem of double standards, where they chose to abide by human rights that suited them and leave out those that were difficult.
