‘MIGHTY’ Mufulira Wanderers kept their promotional bid alive after beating Lime Hotspurs to pile pressure on FAZ Division One North League leaders Forest Rangers after the Week 30 matches played.
The status quo, however, remained the same with Forest, who beat Mufulira Blackpool 2-1, maintaining top slot but now on 59 points, two ahead of Wanderers while Chambishi are on 51 points and Lumwana Radiants 11 points adrift the leaders.
In Mufulira, Brian ‘Adebayor’ Ambungeni and Taonga Bwembya were on target for the legendary side who face Zesco Luapula, FQM Mining, Grinaker and Ndola United in the their last four games.
Blackpool 1 Forest 2
Forest had to come from a goal down to beat their hosts and snatch maximum points thanks to goals by Mala Besa and Green Mumba to keep the Ndola side in the driving seat.
Other matches saw Chambishi beat Ndola United 2-0, Gomes narrowly edged Kitwe United 1-0, Chindwin Sentries thumped Nkwiza 2-1 as Lumwana were 2-0 winners over Kansanshi Dynamos while Kalulushi Modern Stars were held to a 1-all draw by Grinaker.
Premium Sport drew 0-0 with Zesco Luapula and it was a 2-all draw in the matches involving Mining Rangers and FQM Mining.
Petauke 1 Young Stars 0
In the southern league, Chipata Young Stars are all but relegated after losing away to Petauke United on a day that saw leaders Nkwazi re-established their five point lead at the top of the table.
The defeat left Young Stars rock bottom with 18 points meaning that they could only get to 33 points even if they won all their five remaining games. Petauke hold the last survival spot on 33 points.
Nkwazi 1 Shockers 0
Nkwazi got back their commanding five-point lead at the top of the table after beating Zesco Shockers, a victory that was helped by Lusaka Dynamos 1-0 away loss to Luena Buffaloes.
Luena of Kaoma staggered back into promotion race to remain three points behind Dynamos, who are on 57 points but boast of a game in hand against Livingstone Pirates.
Elsewhere, Lusaka City Council (LCC) pulled off a shock 1-0 win over Pirates, a result that lifted them to 31 points but still in the relegation waters to be one point better than Mazabuka United who also won 1-0 at home to fellow relegation haunted Nampundwe United.
City of Lusaka defeated Prison leopards 2-0 to jump into fifth with 46 points, overtaking Paramilitary on goal difference after the Zambia Police side drew 1-1 at Zamcoal Diggers.
Zesco Malaiti Rangers beat Kafue Celtic 1-0 to hold onto to fourth position while Lusaka Tigers played out a 1-1 draw against Riflemen.
