MTN Zambia has said communication is critical in developing budding towns like Livingstone as it serves as a critical tool to service the newly employed aand stimulate further growth.
MTN Zambia chief sales and distribution officer Amon Jere said growth in the tourism sector had led to employment opportunities which translate into development of the region’s social and economic landscape.
Speaking during the opening of the new MTN Livingstone service centre last Friday, Mr Jere said as these developments took place, communication became a critical tool to service the newly employed as well as stimulate further growth.
He said Zambia, through its Livingstone service centre would provide quality services to enhance people’s lives as this was in keeping with the company’s culture of providing exceptional customer service throughout the country.
“All of us present here can attest to the fact that Livingstone and Southern Province as a whole is growing and the roll out of service centres is a clear indication that we want to grow with the province and with our customers.
“We have strategically placed this service centre in Livingstone as it is our regional head office servicing Southern province and the business hub for the region,” Mr Jere said is a statement released by the MTN corporate office yesterday.
At the event, Livingstone Mayor Milford Maambo said his council had set, as one of its priorities, the objective of providing investors in the private and public sectors the necessary support to ensure a thriving and conducive business environment in Livingstone.
He said MTN Zambia’s investment was vital for the city and Government because communication was the back bone of economic growth and development in any country and Zambia was not an exception.
“There is no doubt that the introduction of mobile telecommunications across the country has contributed significantly to the sustainable development of this nation.
“The telecommunications industry has been the pivot of growth in a lot of other industries such as mining, tourism, agriculture, and health, which are all very critical to make our country a viable nation,” Mr Maambo said.
The new MTN service centre was constructed at K590,000.
