AGGRIEVED Armcor Security workers have urged the National Pension Scheme Authority (NAPSA) to take action against the company for allegedly failing to remitt workers monthly dues to the authority.
They charged that the company had been making monthly deductions from their incomes but failed to remitt the money to the authority.
They complained that Armcor had been abrogating NAPSA regulations for close to two years now.
This was despite a consent judgment entered in July, this year, where it was agreed by NAPSA and Armcor that the security firm would begin paying the principal outstanding amount in 18 monthly installments from July, this year.
In the same order, it was agreed that any default of the consent order, would give NAPSA, liberty to execute within one week of default on the entire outstanding amount which stood at K38, 272,821.43.
Recent records indicated that Armcor was in default by failing to remit any of the agreed monthly installments from July to date.
In addition, Armcor had continued to deduct monthly NAPSA contributions from employees but without onward remittance.
The workers questioned why NAPSA had failed to execute the consent order, by collecting the entire amount from Armcor as stated as well as the continued non-remittance of monthly dues for workers’ pension benefits.
“NAPSA should collect the entire amount of all our outstanding contributions because the company has failed to pay monthly installments as agreed with the court. I fail to understand why NAPSA
has allowed this situation to continue, they are not serious with this issue,” the worker said opting to be anonymous.
Another worker shared similar concerns urging NAPSA to take a strong stance against Armcor.
“The company is not paying our salaries; they are not paying NAPSA, ZRA, fuel and so on. So we are wondering where they take the money. We want the Government to help us, otherwise we the employees will end up losing our hard earned money,” the worker stated.
Workers staged protests at Armcor offices located on Kachidza Road from Wednesday to Friday. The employees besieged their head office demanding their salary arrears, which they said had not
been paid for between four to six months while others were demanding their long outstanding terminal dues.
Efforts to get a comment from NAPSA had proved futile.
